Upper MangroveTurtles Yet Again
Upper Mangrove

The Upper Mangrove is a shallow pool which houses two of our permanent resident sea turtles. It is approximately 10,000 gallons with a shallow end that is two feet deep and a deeper end which is five feet deep. This pool is ideal for the turtles residing in it because they both have special needs.

Stubby, a green sea turtle, lost both front flippers due to entanglement in monofilament fishing line. She also has a severe buoyancy problem which prohibits her from diving under water. This pool allows staff and volunteers to be able to get in and interact and feed Stubby.

Molly, a Kemp’s Ridley, lost her left front flipper to a shark attack. She was also missing her left rear flipper upon arriving here. Even though she prefers the deeper end of the pool, her difficulty swimming with the loss of her flippers prevents us from putting her in one of our deeper pools.
